Rheumatology

Avon Rheumatology is dedicated to providing you with rapid access to high quality medical care.

Rheumatology is a Medical Specialty that deals with a wide variety of conditions. There are over 200 different types of arthritis; the most common are degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, but Rheumatologists' expertise is needed to diagnose and treat autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, polymyalgia rheumatica, and systemic lupus erythematosus.

Another common cause of widespread pain is fibromyalgia. This can sometimes be difficult to recognise; Rheumatologists are well-placed to make this diagnosis, although treatment usually requires input from a variety of professionals to help self-management.
